Fertility - Endometriosis

Endometriosis is the presence of endometrial lining tissue outside the uterine cavity such as in the abdomen, ovaries and fallopian tubes. Since the endometrial lining changes with hormonal changes throughout a female’s cycle, it can trigger extreme pain. Long term, this leads to inflammation and potentially the formation of scar tissue.

The hallmark symptom of endometriosis is pain during the menstrual cycle. However, it isn’t uncommon for other symptoms to manifest, such as pain outside of the period time, bloating, constipation, infertility and fatigue.

Endometriosis is diagnosed based on symptoms and through laproscopy, a minimally invasive procedure where the surgeon takes a look inside the abdominal and pelvic cavity. There isn’t a defined cause of endometriosis but knowing that it is an inflammatory condition triggered by hormonal fluctuations can direct appropriate treatment.

Conventional treatment usually concentrates on pain management or procedures to remove endometrial tissue. However, Naturopathic care aim to focus on more than symptom management, but to properly address the cause of inflammation, balance hormones and heal the body for long term relief. This may include:
• An individualized dietary plan
• Nutritional support, including IV therapy
• Stress management with acupuncture
• Supporting liver health and detoxification

The treatment plan devised by your Naturopathic Doctor will be unique to the case. The goal is to provide immediate and long-lasting pain relief, while addressing the underlying conditions to fully bring about healing to the body.
