Naturopathic
Medicine

Naturopathic Medicine is a distinct primary health care system that blends modern scientific knowledge with traditional and natural forms of medicine.

A Naturopathic Doctor combines the art and science of medicine using natural therapies to stimulate the body’s innate ability to heal and restore health.

The aim of Naturopathic Doctors in both treatment and prevention is to address the cause of disease. By removing the cause, the most effective and long-lasting improvements in health can be achieved.

Naturopathic medical care adheres to the following guiding principles, which forms the foundation of effective health care practice:

First, Do No Harm
Safe and effective diagnostic techniques and treatments are provided to increase health and minimize harmful side effects.

The Healing Power of Nature
By removing obstacles to health, treatments aim to restore and support the body’s innate ability to heal and prevent disease.

Identify and Treat the Cause
The goal is to address the cause of ill health rather than suppressing symptoms.

Treat the Whole Person
An individualized diagnostic and treatment plan is devised taking into account the physical, mental and emotional factors of the whole person.

Doctor as Teacher
By supporting the patient–doctor relationship, the Naturopathic Doctor provides an understanding of the factors affecting your health and empowers you to take appropriate action.

Disease Prevention and Health Promotion
Through the use of all the Naturopathic principles, patients are guided to preventing disease, promoting overall health and improving quality of life.

Intravenous (IV)
Therapy

Intravenous therapies are a powerful treatment strategy offering profound benefit in health promotion, symptom resolution, and in recovery from illness.

IVs have a strong and immediate effect, making them useful for:
• acute conditions and symptoms of many types
• a performance top-up to keep us at the top of our game, physically and mentally
• chronic health conditions where a strong impact is needed
• treating the underlying causes of illness
• quickly repleting ourselves when feeling run down or overwhelmed

Their powerful effect:
• accelerates recovery and quickens the process of restoring health
• provides nourishment for optimal health, performance, and aging
• builds a solid foundation of nutrients to fortify our bodies

The advantage of IV treatment is the direct delivery of nutrients to the bloodstream where they are 100% absorbed. Vitamins, minerals and supplements taken by mouth are still very helpful in many circumstances, but often only a small fraction is absorbed. IV therapy is a simple solution to this challenge. Higher doses can be achieved to have a stronger therapeutic effect and can more easily and quickly replenish the body’s nutrients.

What types of IVs are available?
• Nutrient IVs which have developed from the classic “Myer’s Cocktail.” These IVs comprise of a comprehensive mixture of vitamins, minerals, and amino acids of various types depending on the person and condition being supported. They are used therapeutically to replete a body deficient in nutrients, to facilitate healing and recovery, and to optimize performance and well-being.
• Therapeutic IVs with specific medicines to have a specific physiological effect. Examples include Curcumin, NAD+, Glutathione, EDTA, Phosphatidylcholine (PC), and Glycyrrhizin.

To find out how IV therapies might contribute to your health, well-being, or recovery, visit with one of our Naturopathic Doctors.

Ozone & Oxidative
Therapies

The remarkable thing about ozone therapy is its capability to elicit a multitude of useful biological effects (Bocci). Each of these effects promotes a shift in our health toward the better, and is one of our most restorative and useful therapies for a number of our patients.

The extraordinary physiological effects Ozone Therapy has on our patients include:

NAD+ and Cellular Energy Production
As we age, our ability to maintain our cellular energy declines – a phenomena that precedes chronic illness. Ozone therapy restores NAD+ and improves energy metabolism and facilitates our body’s repair and recovery from illness.

Levels of NAD+ naturally decline as we age but the decline can be accelerated by toxic heavy metals, chronic viral infections, mold and mycotoxins in our bodies and environment, inadequate diet and nutrient depletion, lifestyle factors including lack of physical activity, stress, insufficient sleep, etc.  Repair and healing is energy dependent and they require strong energy metabolism. With age-related impairment of energy metabolism, we won’t heal easily. Turning this around is the key to overcoming illnesses AND preventing illness!

  • Regulates the immune system
Ozone therapy activates neutrophils via cytokine release.
  • Improves blood flow
  • Improves oxygen transport = better oxygen delivery through the body
  • Has direct anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties
  • Enhances antioxidant capacity
This is capable of reversing chronic oxidative stress associated with chronic disease, aging, and diet or lifestyle related illness.  Ozone therapy also induces a surge of antioxidants – critical for overcoming chronic viral infections, ischemia and cell degeneration.
  • Reduces inflammation

Extensive
Testing

Laboratory tests are invaluable in any medical setting because they give insight into the underlying causes of disease and the origin of varying symptoms.

Our Doctors at Vive Health utilize a variety of unique laboratory tests to shed further light on a patient’s case and uncover elements that would otherwise remain unknown.  The additional information that can be gathered through testing can help direct our treatment plans and target underlying factors.

Testing offered at Vive Health include:

Lifestyle Impact Assessment – We have created an In-office testing ‘package’ to be able to provide a thorough baseline assessment on many markers of health.  The package includes blood pressure, urinalysis, adrenal testing, InBody Analysis for body composition, Digital Pulsewave Analysis to assess cardiovascular health, and Heart Rate Variability to assess your nervous system and stress management.

Blood work panels – Our blood work panels are extensive and comprehensive.  Examples of panels include: Thyroid, Blood Sugars, Anti-aging, Comprehensive (Female, Male).

IgG food sensitivity test – Food reactions can be a common cause of many health concerns and can affect many organ systems such as the skin, brain, lungs, musculoskeletal system and the digestive tract.  IgG-mediated immune reactions to food can be uncovered with our simple blood test.

Environmental Skin test – With those suffering from environmental allergies, we test for allergies to weeds, trees, grasses, ragweed, cat /dog dander, dust and mould.

SIBO test – Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth can have large implications in the health of our digestive tract.  Through testing, we can detect the presence of various bacteria that may be contributing to digestive symptoms and formulate a plan to eradicate and ultimately heal the gut.

Comprehensive Stool Analysis – Testing can help distinguish the microorganisms present in our gut, assess digestive and absorptive functions, and detect the presence of parasites, yeast or pathogenic bacteria.

DUTCH panel – Hormone balance have a large impact on health and can be related to fertility, weight gain, mood disorders, sleep disturbances and menopausal symptoms.  The DUTCH panel is an accurate and comprehensive tool in detecting tissue levels and metabolites of hormones and results can be used as a guide to help restore balance.

Heavy Metal test – Heavy metals (lead, mercury, arsenic, aluminum) can accumulate in our bodies leading to numerous symptoms and diseases.  Vive Health offers the diagnostic ability to assess one’s heavy metal load and create a plan to eliminate them.

Comprehensive Cardiovascular Risk Profile – Cardiovascular disease is associated with more deaths than all cancers.  The measurement of up to 16 primary and secondary risk factors aid in early detection and reduction of risk factors before the disease progresses .

Prolotherapy and
Prolozone

The best medical treatments are those that restore health to an injured or ailing part of the body. In the case of our joints, the supporting structures (ligaments, tendons, and cartilage) can be injured or weakened over time creating significant pain. To be confident in these joints again, the optimal approach to treatment will encourage the most complete recovery possible.

Prolotherapy does not treat pain but enables injured joints to heal such that they are no longer painful.

Compared to no treatment or standard anti-inflammatory treatments, a joint treated with prolotherapy will:
• regain greater strength and stability
• restore greater function
• recover more quickly and more completely

Anti-inflammatory approaches to treating pain and injury, such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications and cortisone injections, in fact impair healing and weaken the supporting structures of the joint. Ultimately pain treated this way can lead to further deterioration, decreasing mobility, and continuing pain.

While the body may mount a healing response on its own in its reaction to pain or injury, it will often not suffice to resolve the injury. A joint treated with prolotherapy will have a stronger healing response because of its ability to improve blood flow and bring growth factors to stimulate the repair process more robustly.

The result is an accelerated healing process, a stronger joint, ultimately greater confidence in the use of that joint going forward, knowing that it has been well repaired.

How does Prolotherapy accomplish this?

Most joint pain results from injured ligaments and tendons. Injuries to these tissues is very painful because they have a lot of nerve endings that tell you they have been injured! The only way to resolve the pain is to heal the tissue.

Inflammation is required for healing, explaining why anti-inflammatory medications and cortisone compromise the process of healing. Prolotherapy on the other hand triggers localized inflammation to allow the healing process to move forward, repair the injury, and resolve the pain.

What is the process of a Prolotherapy Treatment?

The process of prolotherapy involves the injection of a proliferant solution via small needles to painful ligaments, tendons, and joints. Proliferant solutions may vary slightly between patients but will always include dextrose (a sugar), procaine (an anesthetic), and vitamin B12.

To help reduce the discomfort of the treatment we also numb the area of the injections with lidocaine (another anesthetic) prior to beginning prolotherapy.

TCM and
Acupuncture

Traditional Chinese Medicine is one of the world’s oldest medical systems, dating back over 2,500 years, that has evolved into a form of preventative, complementary medicine in today’s world. Doctors of Traditional Chinese Medicine use a unique set of methods to diagnose, treat, and prevent illness and disease. TCM recognizes that disease, dysfunction and pain can manifest in the body in response to stressors – whether that be physical, psychological, emotional or environmental. These stressors disrupt the normal flow of Qi (metabolic energy) throughout the body’s meridians and organ systems.

Traditional Chinese Medicine works to re-regulate the body and restores its ability to adapt to stressors. The focus of TCM is on treating the individual person, not merely their condition.

A Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine may use Acupuncture, Herbal Medicine, Moxibustion, Fire Cupping, Gua Sha, Diet Therapy, Massage, and mind body practices such as Qi Gong and meditation to help prevent or treat disharmony.

How does it work?

All TCM modalities operate under the same treatment principle; to optimize levels of Qi within the body and regulate flow of Qi through the bodies meridians.

Acupuncture – the foremost treatment modality – works through the insertion of very thin needles at specific points on the body. From these points, messages are conducted to the central nervous system where they can alter neurochemistry, regulate hormones, promote circulation, and encourage tissue regeneration and healing.

Osteopathic &
Massage Therapy

There are four founding philosophies and principles of Osteopathy:

1. The body works as a single entity.
2. Musculoskeletal structure influences function; structure and function are interrelated.
3. The body is self-governing and self-regulating.
4. The body has the capability to protect, repair and regenerate itself to preserve function.

Osteopathic therapists believe that the human body is so beautifully designed that it can heal and adapt to every situation. However, not all adaptations are ideal for the body, causing dysfunctions such as chronic pain or lack of range of motion. Since the human body works as one entity, this dysfunction could then lead to problems in other areas. By doing a full body assessment, a better understanding of your body and habits can be achieved to personalize each treatment and accomplish your goals.
