Low-Dose Immunotherapy

Dr. Jennifer Yee dives into a specialized, integrative therapy option we offer in the clinic:

What is Low-Dose Immunotherapy?

Low-Dose Immunotherapy (LDI) is a gentle therapy designed to help retrain the immune system when it has become overly reactive to certain triggers such as foods, microbes, or environmental exposures.

By restoring immune tolerance, LDI can help reduce chronic inflammation and open the door to improvement of persistent symptoms.

What Can Low-Dose Immunotherapy Treat?

Low-Dose Immunotherapy (LDI) can be used to treat a wide variety of conditions related to imbalanced immune system responses. It is commonly used to treat allergic responses and sensitivities (e.g. to environmental allergens, food-based allergens, etc.).

LDI can also be utilized to address symptoms triggered by an immune response to chronic infections (e.g. candida, other fungal/mould exposures, urinary tract infections, Lyme disease, etc.) and even hormones (e.g. estrogen, progesterone, testosterone).

These excessive immune responses trigger inflammation and can lead to a wide range of symptoms, including joint and muscle pain, headaches, fatigue, brain fog, sinus congestion, digestive upset, chronic recurring infections, generalized inflammation, and more.

How Is Low-Dose Immunotherapy Administered?

Low-Dose Immunotherapy (LDI) is always customized to the patient. After a thorough assessment, either an individual or combination diluted antigen will be selected. LDI treatments are most commonly given by mouth in the form of liquid drops.

Patients can administer their LDI treatments at home. When treatment is initially started, there is a process to determine your optimal dosage (both the concentration/strength of the diluted antigen and the number of drops needed for each dose).

Our ultimate goal is to find the correct antigen and dosage that produces a favourable effect – neither too high nor too concentrated to trigger a negative immune reaction nor too weak to promote a positive benefit.

You will be fully supported and regularly reassessed during the process of finding your most effective dosage. Frequently, other naturopathic treatments and approaches will be used in combination with LDI to more comprehensively support all aspects of health.

Correct continual dosing should lead to a lasting desensitization to the offending antigen with re-dosing only as necessary.
