Skin Health - Rosacea

Rosacea is a skin condition characterized by skin redness on the face. Because of its general appearance, it can be commonly mistaken for acne or other skin conditions. It is most commonly presented in fair-skinned individuals, although it can appear in anyone. In addition to the redness, it can also cause pain and discomfort and can progressively worsen if left untreated. Conventionally, antibiotics and acne medications are used to treat rosacea. However, there are many other options at alleviating symptoms and achieving long-term control on this condition.

Causes of Rosacea

The cause of rosacea is largely unknown, but research has determined that genetics and environment factors play a role.  Since rosacea is deemed an inflammatory skin condition, the Naturopathic approach to addressing it is to look at contributing causes to inflammation.  These include:

  • Food sensitivities
  • Gut health
  • Immune function
  • Cosmetics and other topical aggravants
  • Toxin exposure or accumulation
