IV Therapy & Stress Support

Feeling stressed but can’t find what works for you? Dr. Shelby Garn explores how IV Therapy can be supportive for you:

Stress can present itself in so many ways; this might look like fatigue, headaches, muscle tension, digestive concerns, anxiety, difficulty concentrating, and the list goes on.

There’s no doubt that we can’t prevent stressful events from happening, but what we can do is support your body to handle these stressors with ease. The body can become quickly depleted of essential vitamins and minerals when undergoing stressful events if we’re not mindful of restoring it. While there are many ways to manage stress, like exercise, meditation and proper sleep – IV’s are one of my favourite adjunctive treatments to support the body when undergoing both mentally and physically stressful events. We want to be careful with certain lifestyle interventions that we aren’t stressing our body out even further when combating stress and for this reason a properly formulated IV might be just what you need. Whether you’re struggling with winding down and activating your parasympathetic nervous system or your body is physically having a hard time relaxing, there are options for you.

While acute stress may increase stomach acid production, chronic stress can lead to the opposite effect, reduced stomach acid. When we are unable to fully activate the parasympathetic nervous system, we also have trouble producing adequate amounts of stomach ache impairing digestion leading to malabsorption of nutrients. This can further lead to nutritional deficiencies, fatigue and malaise making it increasingly hard to overcome your “funk.” IV therapy delivers essential vitamins, minerals, and hydration directly into your bloodstream, bypassing the often compromised digestive system. This allows for faster and more efficient absorption, giving your body the resources it needs to combat stress. This isn’t to say IVs are the end all be all, but they will absolutely help build resilience against the depletion that comes from the often high-stress nature of life.

Specific ingredients in our IV targeted to stress management are therapeutic doses of Magnesium, Glycine, Taurine and Carnitine. Magnesium sulphate is used to calm the mind, promote muscle relaxation, nourish the adrenal glands and most importantly improve sleep to further restore the body during stressful times. The amino acid Glycine is a calming amino acid, it is an inhibitory neurotransmitter used to calm the mind by reducing overactivity of nerve signals. Glycine plays a role in protecting the stomach lining by aiding mucous production protecting us from ulcers during acute stress. Glycine is also important for memory, cognitive function, an important immune regulator and promotes restful sleep. Taurine is a conditionally essential amino acid, meaning the body is able to produce it, however, when the body is undergoing elevated amounts of stress or illness supplementation may be necessary. Taurine has an overall calming effect on the nervous system aiding in stress and anxiety relief, reduces muscle fatigue as well as exhibits neuroprotective and immune modulating effects. The amino acid carnitine plays a crucial role in energy production by transporting fatty acids into the mitochondria to produce ATP, also preventing mitochondrial dysfunction, which is linked to many degenerative diseases. Some studies suggest carnitine’s role in mood and depression by supporting the function of neurotransmitters. All of these are complemented with therapeutic doses of Vitamin C, B vitamins and electrolytes to nourish the adrenal glands, support efficient energy production and promote systemic relaxation.

While stress is an inevitable part of life, how we manage it can make all the difference in our overall well-being. IV therapy offers a quick, effective, and highly customizable way to support your body’s stress management capabilities. By delivering essential nutrients directly into your bloodstream, IV therapy helps replenish what stress depletes, boosts your immune system, enhances mental clarity, and promotes overall wellness. If you’re looking for an additional tool to help manage stress, IV therapy might be the game-changer you need.
