Summer Lovin’ – Naturopathic Tips for a Healthy Summer

Have a Healthy Summer with our Naturopathic Tips!

Summer is here, which means we are more likely to be spending time outside for some rest, relaxation and fun! Here are 4 Naturopathic tips from our doctors to ensure you stay healthy while enjoying your summer.

1) Stay sun safe – The best way to protect yourself is to cover up with hats, sunglasses and sun shirts. Of course, we are increasingly dependent on the use of sunscreens and choosing an effective and safe one is important. A mineral-based sunscreen containing zinc oxide or titanium dioxide is a good natural alternative to popular chemical-based sunscreens. Ask our Naturopathic Doctors for their recommendations on healthy sunscreens.  You can also read our blog post on ‘What you need to know about sunscreens’ for more information.

2) Tick prevention – Tick bites and tick-borne illnesses such as Lyme disease are on the rise, so it helps to be vigilant with frequent tick checks if venturing out to grassy and wooded areas. It is also important to know how to properly remove a tick in order to prevent infection. Consider purchasing a handy ‘Tick Kit’ from canlyme.com.

3) Take advantage of summer’s nature bounty – Summer is a great time for local, seasonal foods such as salads, tomatoes, zucchini, and berries. The more colourful the vegetable or fruit, the more nutrient packed they are! If you are in need for new fresh and delicious recipes, make sure you are signed up for our monthly Naturopathic newsletters. Sign up here (scroll down to the bottom of the page).

4) Stay hydrated – This is especially important during the summer months. Keep a water bottle on you at all times to give you a visual cue to ensure adequate hydration. Add slices of lemon, strawberries, raspberries, cucumbers or watermelon to add a burst of flavour!
