Laboratory Tests For Fertility

Laboratory Tests For Fertility

  • |

Laboratory testing can be a useful tool to help an individual determine a more precise approach to improving fertility.  Outside of conventional laboratory tests like blood work, ultrasounds and semen analysis, Naturopathic Doctors well-versed in the fertility world can offer many unique and important test options that can shed light on underlying factors affecting optimal fertility potential.  These are the top four tests that I recommend to fertility patients.

A dried urine test for comprehensive hormones (DUTCH) panel is one of the most useful tests I run when evaluating fertility and hormone balance.  A DUTCH panel looks at tissue levels and metabolites of estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, cortisol, DHEA and melatonin.  In addition, some nutritional organic acids (Vitamin B6, B12, glutathione) and neurotransmitters (dopamine, norepinephrine, epinephrine) are also tested.  The wealth of information this test provides can be an invaluable part of developing an individualized treatment plan.

Urinary Heavy Metals Test
While many tests seemed geared toward assessing female fertility and hormone balance, a urinary heavy metals test can be important in supporting male fertility.  The health of sperm is very much affected by environmental factors, one of which is the exposure and accumulation of heavy metals in the body.  By evaluating the heavy metals load in the body, a more specific plan can be determined to minimize exposure and safely eliminate these toxins to optimize male fertility.

In-Office Testing
Vive Health is one of very few clinics that offer a comprehensive in-office testing package that can assess an individual’s stress response, cardiovascular health, circulation and nervous system balance.  All the data and information gathered provide a better insight into the body’s function and sheds light on any imbalances that need to be addressed to help one achieve optimal health.

IgG Food Sensitivity Test
One of our most common and requested tests, an IgG food sensitivity test can highlight foods that may be aggravating the immune system and leading to symptoms varying from indigestion, headaches, low energy and poor mental function.  Identifying food sensitivities can be one way to individualize one’s diet plan and to ensure steps are taken to support digestive health and maximize nutrient intake and absorption.
