Your Pelvic Floor

Taking care of your pelvic floor is an important area of women’s health care and until recently, largely overlooked by mainstream medicine. Previously, it was thought that events such as birth and menopause ultimately resulted in health issues like urinary leakage and prolapse and women should just accept these disabling conditions as “normal”. Nowadays, many women have at least heard of the term “pelvic floor” and are familiar with the concept of practicing kegels, a muscle strengthening exercise. Holistic Pelvic Care® takes pelvic floor therapy to the next level, using physical, hands-on techniques to improve the muscle balance and also takes into account a woman’s mind-body connection to her pelvic floor.

Holistic Pelvic Care® was designed by women’s physical therapist, Tami-Lynn Kent in Portland, Oregon. She observed that during times of stress, a woman’s muscle tension pattern in her pelvic floor actually shifted regardless of any external physical trauma. She created a framework using gentle, internal pelvic bodywork combined with an energetic approach to achieve a deep balance for a woman’s health.

What Conditions can Holistic Pelvic Care Treat?

– Painful intercourse
– Urinary leakage
– Chronic bladder or vaginal infections
– Postpartum recovery (starting at 6 weeks postpartum)
– Prolapse
– Menstrual pain
– Healing post-miscarriage

As a Naturopathic Doctor, in addition to the physical techniques, I can also support pelvic floor health using other tools such as hormone balancing, detoxification, acupuncture and optimal digestion strategies.
